This section describes the requirements, limits and feature compatibility for integrating Nutanix Cloud Platform with Everpure FlashArray.

Requirements

Everpure FlashArray Requirements
Purity//FA

6.10.3 or later

Array Model
  • FlashArray//X - //X20 //X50 //X70 //X90
  • FlashArray//XL - //XL130 //XL170 //XL190

  • FlashArray//C - //C40 //C50 //C60 //C70 //C90

R3, R4 and R5 Models are supported
Protocol Type NVMe-TCP
Network Speed 10 Gb/s (with supported transceivers)

25 Gb/s

100 Gb/s

MTU 9000 or 1500 are both supported
Ethernet Cards Refer to FlashArray Transceiver and Cable Support
Deployment Type Brownfield and Greenfield are both supported
Network Ports Management Ports: 443

NVMe/TCP Ports: 4420

Important:
  • At this time the FlashArray//C20 and //RC20 will not be supported with Nutanix Cloud Platform for external storage, as the both have lower object count limits then the //X20 or //C40 models by comparison. Which would limit the number of virtual machines that could run on the //C20 or //RC20 and is not the experience desired.

    • In the event that using a //C20 or //RC20 with NCP is a hard requirement please reach out to your Everpure and Nutanix account teams.

  • The FlashArray//E is not currently validated for external storage with Nutanix. There is no timeline for when it will be validated. Work with you Nutanix and Everpure account teams if the //E array is a requirement.

  • The FlashArray//X10 will not be supported with NCP and there is no plan or intention to in the future.

Nutanix Cloud Platform Requirements
Acropolis Operating System (AOS) 7.5.0 or later
Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV) 11.0 or later
Prism Central 7.5.0 or later
Deployment Type Greenfield only, Brownfield is not supported
Cluster minimum 3 nodes
Note: Nutanix can only support direct connect with UCS Fabric Interconnects at this time. The FlashArray can be direct connected to the Fabric Interconnects and NCP can use the FlashArray as external storage. Nutanix won't be able to support NVMe-TCP and external storage by directly connecting non-UCS bare metal servers to the FlashArray NVMe-TCP ports.

Object Limits

The table blow outlines what the specific FlashArray Objects when working with the Nutanix Cloud Platform. While the total limits on the array may be higher, these limits are specific to the FlashArray integration with NCP.
FlashArray Object Description FlashArray Limit Value
Maximum # of Realms 50
Maximum # of Pods 50
Maximum # of Hosts 2,000
Maximum # of Volumes 10,000 (//X70 //X90 //XL130 //XL170 //XL190 //C70 //C90)

5,000 (//X20 //X50 //C40 //C50 //C60)

Maximum # of Volumes per Host 4,000
The table below outlines what the specific Nutanix Objects when working with external storage and FlashArray. These limits are outlined from a per Nutanix Cluster and not from an Array perspective.
Nutanix Object Description Nutanix Limit Value
Minimum Nodes per Cluster 3
Maximum Nodes per Cluster 32
External Storage per Cluster 1 (a Nutanix Cluster can only connect to a single FA)
Maximum vDisk per Cluster 5,000
Maximum VMs using Nutanix Async Replication per Cluster

1000 (AOS 7.5.1)

500 (AOS 7.5.0)

Feature Compatibility

FlashArray Feature Description Integration and Supportability Notes
SafeMode Tolerated with caveats. Safemode can be enabled on the Nutanix volumes but should only be used in emergencies. See KB here.
Local Protection Group Tolerated with caveats. Nutanix volumes can be added to local protection groups on the array but should only be used in emergencies.
Periodic Replication (Async) Co-existence only. It is not supported to enable this on Nutanix controlled volumes. It can be enabled on the array for other use cases.
Continuous Replication (ActiveDR) Co-existence only. It is not supported to enable this on Nutanix controlled volumes. It can be enabled on the array for other use cases.
Synchronous Replication (ActiveCluster) Co-existence only. It is not supported to enable this on Nutanix controlled volumes. It can be enabled on the array for other use cases.
CloudSnap Co-existence only. CloudSnap does not support volumes in pods and Nutanix uses pods for provisioning. Therefore it is not possible to enable this on Nutanix controlled volumes. It can be enabled on the array for other use cases.
Fusion Co-existence only. It is not supported to enable this on Nutanix controlled volumes. It can be enabled on the array for other use cases.
Volume Groups Supported, not integrated. While this feature can be enabled with Nutanix controlled volumes, the feature is not integrated into Prism management so it must be assigned and configured directly through FlashArray UI.
Volume QoS Supported, not integrated. While this feature can be enabled with Nutanix controlled volumes, the feature is not integrated into Prism management so it must be assigned and configured directly through FlashArray UI.
File Services Tolerated with caveats. Virtual machines cannot run on NFS, SMB or Object based external storage.

However applications running in VMs or containers can directly connect with FlashArray NFS or SMB services as needed. File and Object services offered by FlashBlade are supported in a similar manner.

Which also means that a FlashArray used with NCP as external storage can also have file services configured and enabled.

An example would be leveraging FA File NFS or SMB shares with Virtual Machines running on either external storage or Nutanix storage. Such as user shares.

Important: Regarding FlashBlade File and Object Services: With Nutanix Cloud Platform (NCP), virtual machines cannot run on NFS, SMB or Object based external storage. As such a FlashBlade can not be configured as an external storage container with NCP. However applications running in VMs or containers can directly connect with FlashBlade Object and File services as needed. File services offered by FlashArray are supported in a similar manner.
