Creating a Network Pool

  1. Before starting the workload domain deployment, there are two prerequisites:
    1. Create a network pool on the management domain’s vCenter
    2. Commission the hosts on management domain’s vCenter

  2. Login to your management domain's vCenter server; click the hamburger next to vSphere Client to bring up the Shortcuts menu then select (1) Global Inventory List, (2) Resources, then (3) Hosts.

  3. Select the (1) Network Pools tab then click the (2) Create Network Pool button.

  4. Provide the required information under vMotion Network information VLAN, MTU, IP, Subnet, Gateway (2), Included IP Address Ranges (3) and save (4) it.

  5. Once the network pool has been (2) created successfully, it will populate under the (3) network pool name column.

Commission the ESXI Hosts

  1. Select the Unassigned Hosts (1) tab and click the COMMISSION HOSTS (2) button.

  2. Read through the prerequisites and ensure the requirements are met. Click on the check box to select all (1) and then click (2) proceed.

  3. Populate the hosts details and ensure (2) VMFS on FC has been selected for storage type then click (3) ADD.

  4. Confirm the (4) fingerprints for the hosts to be added, click (5) VALIDATE ALL, then click (6) NEXT.

  5. Enable (1) skip fails hosts during commission validate hosts information (2) and click (3) COMMISSION.

  6. Once commissioning has completed, the hosts will populate into the (1) unassigned hosts list.

Creating Workload Domain using VCF OPS

  1. Select (1) Inventory and the (2) VCF instance to add the workload domain to. Then click the (3) Add Workload Domain button and select (4)Create New.

  2. Validate the Workload Domain Prerequisites are met, (1) Select All and click (2) PROCEED.

  3. Populate the (2) Workload Domain Name and (3) SSO Domain Name and SSO Password. Click (4) NEXT.

  4. Provide the vCenter (2) server FQDN and root user password. Click (3) NEXT.

  5. Provide the (2) cluster name and vSphere Zone name then click (3) NEXT.

  6. Select a (2) cluster image and click (3) NEXT. This is the image that is installed on the ESXi hosts in the management domain.

Configure NSX Manager for workload domain

  1. The high-availability (2) mode NSX Manager nodes are deployed Appliance Size (3) are Medium, Enter the (4) FQDN for the Appliance first, second and third NSX Manager nodes.

  2. Enter the NSX Manager cluster (5) Virtual IP details FQDN, Set the password for the admin (6) audit users (7). And confirm the Centralized connectivity (8) click NEXT (9).

Configure Storage as VMFS and adding ESXi hosts

  1. Select the storage (2) type for the workload domain (VMFS on FC) click (3) NEXT.

  2. Provide the (2) VMFS FC datastore name created earlier manually and click (3) NEXT.

  3. Select the (2) ESXi hosts that will be part of the workload domain and click (3) NEXT.

Configure DVS and Portgroups including NSX Transport Zone VLAN

  1. For distributed switch configuration, (2) SELECT the default profile, click on the (3) 3 vertical dots, provide a (4) Distributed Switch Name, (5) Distributed Portgroup Name for management, (6) Distributed Portgroup Name for vMotion, (7)Transport Zones Name, (8) NSX Transport Node Profile Setting and finally click (9) SAVE CHANGES.

  2. Click (10) Edit, provide the (11) transport VLAN and click (12) SAVE CHANGES.

  3. Click (13) Acknowledge and click (14) NEXT.

Review All Inputs and Validate Configuration

  1. Validate and review the information populated earlier and click (1) FINISH.

  2. Once the workload domain deployment has completed, the task should show as complete.

  3. In the VCF Ops inventory page, (1) validate that the workload domain has been added.
