There are two steps to the migration process; migrating the VM configuration, and migrating the storage. The VM configuration contains information that helps the hypervisor simulate the VMs computer hardware that the VM operates with such as the number of processors, amount of memory, number and types of storage, virtual network adapters, and more. This VM configuration can also be manually created in Hyper-V where existing virtual hard disks that have been converted from VMware can be added.
